TextDoor is an external program for the RemoteAccess BBS system, which
allows the users to read textfiles and to view ansi files. The program
uses a tree shaped structure like the MS-DOS directory tree.
* The Selection screen
When you enter the program you see a list with items. Each item has a
number, a type and a description. F.e.
[ 1] * Ansifiles to view
Under the list is a single menuline with options. The program knows tree
types of items:
Type | Kind
-----+-----------
* | SubMenu (also has a different color (for ansi-users))
A | Ansi/AVATAR file
| Normal ascii file
Ansi files can only be viewed if you have the ANSI option selected in the BBS.
* The menu options
There are a few options available in the selection menu:
[NUMBER] : When you want to view or read an item, or want to go to a
submenu, you just type the number. The number doesn't have to
be on the screen when you selected it.
The prompt changes when you start to type a number from
'Your choise:' into 'Number:'. When you make a mistake you
can delete the number with the backspace and press return.
[-/+] : When there's more than one screen full of items (Up to 500
per list) you can page through them with the + and - keys.
[H] : Help, shows you this helpfile.
[Q] : Quit, leave the program.
[RETURN] : Thisone isn't in the menuline, but can always be used to redraw
the screen.
* Reading a file
When you read an ascii file the program uses the same values as the BBS.
So make sure you have your ScreenLength, MorePrompt and Send ClearingCodes
installed the right way. (and of course the ANSI toggle..;)
* Viewing an ANSIfile.
You can only view ansifiles when you have the ANSI toggle on in the BBS.
If not, you get an errormessage. AnsiFiles can be paused by pressing the
'P' key (and continue with every other key) or be aborted by pressing
the 'S' key.
* Menus
It can happen that you can't get back to the main menu after you selected
a submenu. The only thing you can do in such a case is to quit the program.
You could warn the SysOp in this case as it's (most likely) an error in the
setup.
* Other features
TextDoor also checks for online messages. When someone sends you a message
on a multiline RA system, it will be shown as soon as possible. You cannot
reply though.
Have fun,
The SysOp
